This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Python Developer in the United States.

This role is designed for an experienced Python developer who will play a critical part in maintaining and evolving core APIs that power high-volume, consumer-facing applications. You will work with a large, established codebase, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability across web, mobile, and kiosk platforms. The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating complex systems, optimizing SQL queries, and driving backend feature development. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects, modernize legacy systems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while working in a fully remote environment. Success requires technical mastery, problem-solving skills, and the ability to own key components of an enterprise-grade codebase.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain REST API endpoints using Flask (OpenAPI specification) and manage integrations with internal and external systems.
  • Optimize backend performance, including SQL query tuning, indexing, caching (e.g., Redis), and application monitoring.
  • Work directly with MySQL, writing complex, custom SQL queries without ORM dependency.
  • Refactor and modernize legacy code, expanding automated test coverage to ensure system reliability.
  • Investigate and resolve complex application bugs, ensuring a high-quality user experience.
  • Develop new backend functionalities to expand the feature set of consumer-facing products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth delivery of backend services.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Python developer.
  • Strong experience with Flask (or Django), including building and managing APIs.
  • Expertise in SQL and relational database design; ORM experience is not a substitute.
  • Significant experience working with large, complex, established codebases.
  • Background in high-volume, consumer-facing applications (e-commerce or retail experience is a plus).
  • Prior experience integrating with external systems such as payments, CRM, loyalty, or marketing platforms.
  • Self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Availability to coordinate and work in real-time until at least 5 p.m. US Eastern Time.
  • Nice-to-haves: Hands-on experience with Celery, Redis, Docker, Linux, and AWS.

Benefits

  • Health care plan including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Retirement plan (401k) with employer contributions.
  • Life insurance (basic, voluntary, and AD&D).
  • Flexible paid time off and family leave (maternity/paternity).
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.
  • Fully remote work setup with stable and reliable work environment.
  • Stock option plan for long-term growth and equity participation.
