JOB TITLE: Senior Mechanical Estimator

DEPARTMENT: Estimating

REPORTS TO: VP of Estimating

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The Mechanicals Estimator plays a critical role in supporting the sales organization by developing accurate and competitive cost proposals for complex mechanical systems. This position serves as a key interface between cross-functional teams—Sales, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Operations—to ensure all estimates are thorough, data-driven, and aligned with company objectives. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical understanding of fabrication, machining, welding, and integration, and can translate customer requirements into precise cost models that drive strategic business decisions.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Analyze and interpret RFQ packages to determine data completeness and quote feasibility.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Customers to obtain any required technical or commercial clarifications.
  • Lead quote kickoff meetings to align cross-functional teams on strategy and execution timelines.
  • Engage with Engineering and Operations to assess manufacturability, labor effort, and production methodology.
  • Aggregate all inputs into standardized quote templates and costing tools.
  • Prepare quote-to-quote variance and risk analyses to support business decisions.
  • Consolidate all applicable inputs into the appropriate quote templates.
  • Develop detailed cost summaries and present them for internal executive review.
  • Facilitate formal pricing review meetings with senior stakeholders.
  • Finalize and release pricing packages to Sales or Business Management
  • Finalize pricing proposal and issue to sales, business management or customer as required.
  • Track quote activity and support win/loss analysis to improve future outcomes. Apply deep expertise in mechanical systems including precision fabrication, complex machining, welded assemblies, and mechanical integration.
Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field—or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
  • Minimum 5–7 years in mechanical cost estimating, quoting, or related manufacturing environments.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
  • ERP system fluency (experience with quoting and job costing modules preferred).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and complex mechanical assembly.
  • Familiarity with cost modeling and margin analysis.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to assess financial and operational impacts.
  • Clear and professional communication style; confident in customer-facing discussions.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively across departments.

Preferred Experience:

  • Exposure to regulated industries such as aerospace, medical device, pharmaceutical, robotics, or food processing equipment.
  • Experience with configurable quoting systems, CAD integration, or cost automation tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive commercial data with discretion.
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement background is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to have good hearing and sight. You will need to be able to walk the shop floor and be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
