This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Machine Learning Scientist in the United States.

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Machine Learning Scientist to join a global team focused on advancing AI and machine learning across educational technology products. In this role, you will develop, maintain, and fine-tune ML models, including large language models (LLMs), while collaborating with product owners, engineers, and subject matter experts. You will be responsible for dataset construction, model research, and deployment-ready model hardening, ensuring scalable and reliable AI solutions. The role offers the opportunity to impact millions of users worldwide by improving learning outcomes, detecting academic integrity issues, and enhancing assessment automation. You will be at the forefront of AI innovation, leveraging cutting-edge techniques in deep learning, NLP, and multi-modal ML systems. Strong software engineering skills, proficiency in Python, and experience with ML frameworks are critical for success.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced machine learning and deep learning models for text, and potentially multi-modal, data.
  • Collaborate with product owners and subject matter experts to define key questions and generate trainable datasets.
  • Curate, preprocess, and annotate data, applying best practices for responsible data collection and model maintenance.
  • Implement, fine-tune, and optimize large language models (LLMs) and other ML models for production-scale deployment.
  • Communicate model behavior, limitations, and insights to technical teams, stakeholders, and product managers.
  • Write clean, modular, and testable code with documentation and automated testing pipelines.
  • Stay up-to-date with ML research, experimenting with new architectures, frameworks, and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in software engineering, with strong ML/Deep Learning expertise.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, AI, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Strong background in deep learning for text, including NLP, and familiarity with other modalities (vision, speech) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, Unix/Linux environments, and version control systems (git/GitHub).
  • Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, scikit-learn, Hugging Face, and experiment tracking tools (Weights & Biases, AWS SageMaker).
  • Knowledge of language model usage, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and LLM orchestration.
  • Experience with production-level ML deployment, containerization (Docker), and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS).
  • Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills; fluent in English.
  • Strong applied science orientation with software development proficiency.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience building APIs, back-end services, or front-end prototypes for ML demos or applications.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced LLM training, fine-tuning, or prompting on cloud or open-source platforms.
  • Portfolio showcasing previous work such as open-source contributions, publications, or project demos.

Benefits

  • Remote-first work culture with flexibility and autonomy.
  • Competitive salary range: $111,000 to $185,000/year plus bonus eligibility.
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage, including mental health support.
  • Education reimbursement and professional development opportunities.
  • Generous paid time off including national holidays, self-care days, and parental leave.
  • Retirement plan with contributions/matching.
  • Paid volunteer time and charitable contribution matching.
  • Monthly wellness or home office reimbursement.
